Close Calls: Narrow Escapes Living on the Road

“Bryce Yarborough’s Close Calls: Narrow Escapes Living on the Road is a Jack Kerouac (author of On The Road) barreling down the fast lane in hyperdrive with no seatbelts and no brakes. With action, thrills, and heart-stopping moments, Close Calls is what good movies are made of.”
Janey Wing Kenyon
Author of Wingin’ It: On the Edge Adventures

“Bryce Yarborough gives us a real page-turner: amazing, enticing, and—I have no reason not to believe him—true.”
Victoria Moran
Author of Creating a Charmed Life

"Close Calls is hard to put down. I found myself relating to many of the predicaments that Bryce lived through. There are some stories to laugh through, and some that had me curled in the corner of the couch cringing and praying for a happy ending. Bryce seems to realize that the purpose behind each seemingly horrifying event in life is just as important and has as much to teach as the moments we judge to be beautiful. Each story left me eager for the next."
Justin Thurman

"I was spellbound and read Close Calls through in one sitting. I was completely drawn into each experience while reading. I was captivated and felt the many emotions that he must have experienced as these events unfolded in his life."
Teri Bybee

"Once I started Close Calls, I could hardly put it down. Bryce has experienced life in ways most of us cannot even imagine, and he survived dangers that seem surreal. Usually things like this happen to just "characters in a book." He has shared a part of his life in such a compelling way. I can't wait for the next chapter of his life to be put into words."
Larry Phillips

"Bryce masterfully tells many accounts of life on the road and the fascinating people and experiences he encounters. His creativity and real life writing instilled a renewed inspiration for me to live in each moment and see the good everywhere I go."
John Kneisler

"I enjoyed the exciting stories about Bryce’s travels. I could identify how he felt after his breakup, but I would never have the nerve to do what he did. Good book!"
Jim Reed

"I read Close Calls: Narrow Escapes Living on the Road in a record four days! That's only impressive because I have started books with the best intentions, yet not finished them. When I was reading this book, I felt like I was taking the journey with Bryce. I was thankful, of course to just be reading it! But, it helped me live a little on the wild side in the comfort of my home."
Tracy Young

"Reading Close Calls took me back to my own college days in the turbulent ‘70s. Flashbacks of good and bad times filled my thoughts as I read it. I had fun going back in time and "hitching a ride" on Bryce’s experiences. What a lift!"
Jim Szegedi

"Great book! I wish I had had the opportunity or foresight to take off and travel like Bryce did. I have had the opportunity to do some backpacking for extended periods, but nothing on the scope of what Bryce has done. Again, great book!"
Steve Hawkins

"I could clearly visualize Bryce doing all of the things in his book. I lived vicariously through him. I am still cold from the time he almost froze to death. Close Calls helped me tap into the adventurous side in me!"
Sharyl Kennedy

"I thought Close Calls was very thought provoking yet funny. It was an easy read and a great distraction. You see, the evening I purchased the book, my mom passed away and we had to hurry back east. I read the book while on the plane, and it really helped me."
Sue Kriss

"I met Bryce Yarborough back when he and his family moved to Springfield, and we went to the same high school. I also ended up at Mizzou. After his marriage and divorce, we didn't see each other much, but when we did he would tell me of his adventures hitching around the country. For me, it's nice to have these stories in print because after so long I had forgotten some of them. I know many of the situations he relates to personally, and I’m happy he survived. I had doubts he would from time to time.

Bryce is as genuine as anybody could be, and I feel blessed to call him my friend. He convinced me to try hitchhiking, which I did for a while back then, but I too had some close calls and decided it was not for me. I am glad I was able to offer him a ride though from Columbia to Chicago (on a rock 'n' roll band’s bus) on his venture to Mackinaw Island. I look forward to new writings as well as visits with Bryce in the future. Rock on."
